Ani Difranco : Dilate; Not a Pretty Girl
Aug. 20th, 2009 02:57 pmAs promised last night, I bring unto you some downloads of Ani Difranco albums -- specifically, Dilate, and Not a Pretty Girl. These albums are simply amazing and you simply HAVE to listen to them.
( I'm not worthy of you, you're not worthy of me. )
( I'm not worthy of you, you're not worthy of me. )
So, I was listening to samples of Robert Downey Jr's album The Futurist on Amazon to see if I liked it at all before I seriously considered buying it, and -- oh, RDJ, RDJ. Just. No. It was a nice try, really. You just... tried too hard.
Like, you can tell he has a nice enough voice and everything, but it kept cracking on most of the samples I listened to, and he was clearly straining for certain notes, and it was just so strange and awkward and stilted that I couldn't help simultaneously nervously laughing and cringing for him. Plus the weird LOLRASPY thing he was going for just sounded so strange and, again, like he was Trying Too Hard. But not hard enough, at the same time. I don't even know. And I guess it's not entirely fair for me to criticize since, a) I know virtually nothing about music, and b) I didn't even listen to the whole thing, but man oh man. Thank God I listened to the samples before impulsively buying it, that's all I can say.
Anyway, to try to forget about what I just listened to I started playing Ani Difranco's Not A Pretty Girl, and oh my God that album is so amazing and it is my new favorite CD of the moment. It's surpassed Dilate as my favorite Ani album (although Dilate is an EXTREMELY close second). I might upload it tomorrow for you guys, it's that good. And I'll throw Dilate in there too, just for the lulz.
In conclusion, RDJ, don't quit your dayjob, and Ani, keep being awesome.

Put your iPod/iTunes/etc on random, and list the first 100 songs that play. No skips, no matter how embarrassing.

Anna has bought the tickets, so I am officially going to the Keane concert at Radio City in May! :DDD I AM EXCITED. It's Orchestra level seating too. I will obviously post any pictures that I take.
Also, Watchmen opens tomorrow! Alas, I won't get to see it until Sunday, but I'm pumped anyway.
Lots of exciting shit going on. Yes.

Man, am I beat! We shot Andrea's short film in my dorm today, and afterwards a bunch of us stayed and talked for a couple of hours. Brittany has SO MANY crazy stories. Anyway, it was an exciting day. I went out and got coffee for people at one point; I felt like I was an intern. And we had pizza and it was good. It was a nice day.
Although, I went back to NJ to get my student refund check, right? This was pretty much the only reason I went back. Well, guess what?
Yeah. I forgot it.
Typical Jackie. *facepalm*
( Also, meme. )

What the fuck??
Jan. 11th, 2009 02:33 pmI'm back at school now, but I've been troubleshooting problems with my Internet connection for the past two hours. My computer wasn't connecting via my Ethernet cable, and even when I went downstairs to use the Wi-Fi it still wasn't working. The wireless connection is working now; I hope the ethernet connection works again too once I go back upstairs.
I swear to God I hate this computer.
Anyway, so yeah, back at school now, with my new TV and DVD player, and it's awesome. Yesterday I went to the mall with Bonner and Beth and got an awesome Watchmen shirt and the new Bloc Party CD, so that was fun. Bonner also bought me Breakfast on Pluto, so yay for that. I don't really like the new Bloc Party album, though; I find the songs to be too busy and not very... well, good. But I was only half-listening, so maybe I need to listen again. And I needed some time for the Keane album to grow on me, and now "Spiralling" is one of my favorite songs at the moment, so I could change my mind.
*deep breath* The connection in my room better work now, I swear to God...

Goddamn Facebook!
Nov. 24th, 2008 01:14 pmIt is eating my life. I took like ten quizzes yesterday for no reason and I'm being driven crazy by the fact that you can't check who said what about you on this one application. *headdesks*

Top 10 Albums
Nov. 21st, 2008 03:08 pmThis was a writer's block thing from a little while ago, I believe, but
skypipe posted it on her journal so I thought I'd do it as well.
Some people spend their whole lives preparing the answer to this question: What albums are on your personal all-time Top 10 list?
I'm gonna try not to be too obvious with these. Like, putting albums EVERYONE puts.
( In no particular order... )

I've been posting around midnight a lot lately.
So, my Film History mid-term was today, and... I'm not sure how I did on it! It was only ten questions, and it was multiple-choice, and I know I at least got some of them right... the question is, which ones did I get wrong? I hope I don't get less than an 80, though, since I missed one class for the DanRad thing and that negatively impacts my grade (they REALLYYY don't like you missing classes here -- if you miss just TWO classes you fail). But I guess I'll find out soon enough.
I made a playlist on my Myspace for no real reason. Check it out. I pretty much never go on Myspace anymore -- I go on Facebook now. I'm such a sheep. XD

Music meme
Oct. 20th, 2008 12:32 pmI'm bored, so a meme stolen from a bunch of people.
Step 1: Music player on shuffle.
Step 2: First line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game, post your own!
( TRY YOUR LUCK )

Headacheee
Oct. 13th, 2008 07:40 pmI have a headache. Woe. :( I hate how coffee can sometimes give me a headache. Maybe I shouldn't have had one at 6 at night.
Anyway, not much has been going on. In about twenty minutes I'm gonna head downstairs and check into my new dorm. Today shall be my last night watching Heroes here. :( I hope someone in my new dorm has a TV, otherwise I will either have to a) buy one myself, or b) have to wait until someone uploads it to Teh Interwebs later that night. Which would be annoying, but I guess I could live with it.
I'm also going to apply for a job at Target -- in New Jersey, and weekends only. They'll probably hire me... my mom, who used to work at a Target, says they always need weekend people, and I'm awesome and stuff, so "they'd hire [me] in a second". Yay? :D I have to actually go in the store and apply though, apparently, according to the website, so it'll have to wait until next weekend.
Also also! I'm making a playlist of potential new bands for my mom, because she is tired of listening to the same bands all of the time. Her taste runs towards heavy metal/hard rock, but not screamo or anything like that... stuff like Guns N' Roses, Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Led Zeppelin, Queensryche (which is her fav, and if any of you know who the hell they are you get a prize!), AC/DC, Queen, that sort of thing. Anyone got any suggestions? :D

Top 5 Song Things!
Oct. 10th, 2008 12:14 amFrom the meme in the last entry. I'm not going to be able to post them tomorrow (er, today), since I'm leaving for NJ pretty much right after class and I'm not bringing my computer there. All of the songs are in order.
My Top 5 Song Things!
(all of the files are in the same zip)
( Track Listing )
Let me know if you just want one of these, and I'll try to upload it for you as soon as I can. The beginning of next week will be busy for me, what with the moving and all, so yeah.

The Post With Multiple Purposes
Oct. 9th, 2008 03:51 pmFirst, a meme:
Top Five Music Edition!
this is basically the same as the regular top five meme, but this one focuses solely on music. you can pick anywhere from top five albums, top five favorite songs at the moment or something more complicated and ask me. i'll make a post with everything once I get all requests. either way you get free music so everyone wins.
Second, I want to rant about politics. I realize I'm probably mostly preaching to the choir, but I have to get it off my chest.
I seriously do not understand the reasoning behind voting for a presidential candidate because they remind you of yourself, your friends, your family, that nice guy you knew once, etc. The president is not your friend. The president is not supposed to be as intelligent as someone who didn't graduate fifth grade. He/she's supposed to be a smart person, because you know what? THEY ARE RUNNING THE COUNTRY, NOT YOU. I don't want someone with my level of intelligence running the country! I have no fucking IDEA how to fix the problems this country has! I want someone smarter than me in office! It's so weird, the way some people project themselves onto candidates. Who cares if you could have an awesome night on the town with So-and-So candidate; what matters is if they know their shit. Just -- argh! The thought process behind some people, seriously.
Third, I have decided to move into the other dorm. Yay! I'm checking in on Monday. I am just so sick of living here. The place is always a mess, I hate having my computer out in the open like this, I hate the way people just move my shit around for no reason (I found my towels in the OTHER BATHROOM today, for fuck's sake!), I hate how half the people here drink themselves stupid and leave their bottles lying around, I hate the way I have no personal space, I hate how weirdly antagonistic the attitude toward me is, I hate the way the floor in my room is so sticky and there's crap EVERYWHERE and I can't do anything in there and rnvpndwnv.
Yeah. I'm ready to move out.
Phew! Okay, I'm done.

Psyching myself up.
Aug. 1st, 2008 06:46 pmI'm kinda gearing myself up for doing a second draft of Friends Like Enemies, and guess how I'm doing it?
By making playlists for the four main characters, of course.
Not mixes, mind you. Playlists. Songs the characters would like (that I would be able to stand listening to, anyway -- Bruce likes a lot of rap, and Matt kinda likes screamo, and Mitch secretly likes James Blunt but he would never tell anyone). I feel kind of insane, but whatever. These characters were, like, my entire LIFE while I was writing this thing. I gotta get back into that mindset! At least a little.
I might make a combined mix later, though. With, like, three songs or four songs for each of them. Just to give you guys some free music. :p
ETA: Somehow this whole playlist thing is making me feel too much like Stephenie Meyer. I can't even enjoy geeking out over my own characters anymore! ;_;

Why must things be so shiny?
Jul. 30th, 2008 04:39 pmSo, I had vowed not to spend any money this week after I bought Psych season 2 on Friday (used at a discount, so it was only $28).
But what did I go and do today?
I bought:
Iron and Wine CD off of Amazon
Spider-Man book o'comics
Pocky and popcorn for the Movie Education Day tomorrow with Tiffany
That weird soap from Lush
*facepalm* I mean, that doesn't sound like a lot to a normal person, but for me it's like going on a shopping spree. I'M SO CHEAP YOU GUYS.
