INTERPOL

Okay, let's see if I can remember at least half of the details.

So yesterday was the Interpol concert at Radio City, and it was so awesome. I wound up getting there wayyyy earlier than I had to, so I was just wandering around the entire building for an hour while I waited for Sophie and Anna, but it was so worth it. I had spent the day walking around the city so I was kind of tired, but WHATEVER WHATEVER IT'S INTERPOL.

We were sitting in the first row of the second mezzanine, so we had a good view but couldn't, you know, see them that well, but that's all right because I'm one of those people who usually doesn't give a shit about the actual members of the band because I just like the music. Yeah.

First of all, THE LIGHTING WAS SPECTACULAR. I would've tried to get pictures but they wouldn't have looked even nearly as good as the real thing. The one in particular that stands out in my head was the first encore song, "The Lighthouse", where they had a single spotlight, and the smoke, and it was all beige and vnbriohbio4hrbio4hb SO GREAT SOOOOO GREAT. I kept forgetting the song titles I was so excited.

SONGS THEY PLAYED (not in order because I forget)

Success
PDA
Slow Hands (...encore, I think? um)
Barricade
Rest My Chemistry
Stella Was A Diver and She Was Always Down
NYC ("This song is dedicated to this audience.")
The Heinrich Maneuver
Hands Away
The New
Memory Serves
Summer Well
Narc
The Lighthouse (encore)
Not Even Jail (encore)

There might be a few more I'm forgetting. BUT YEAH, IT WAS FUCKING FANTASTIC. And if you've never been to Radio City, when you get a drink they'll put like this little blue light thing in it so when everyone who has a drink is in their seats, in the dark, it looks really cool. So Paul, after one of the songs, was like "What's with the blue lights? That's a cool effect..."

AND ALSO I glanced behind our row once and there was this square-looking middle aged dude just dancing his ass off. It was fucking hilarious.

HOORAY!!!!!!

So, the Keane concert was last night, and it was fantastic. I didn't get any pictures like I had promised, unfortunately, but if Sophie manages to figure out how to get the pictures from her phone on the Internet I will post those.

Anyway, it was great. The two opening acts, The Helio Sequence and Matt Kearney were rather good as well. There were lots of pretty lights and general awesomeness. The lead singer is so young-looking! He came over to the balcony thing over on our side of the theater and he looks like a teenager; it's crazy.

The best part I would have to say was the encore after the encore -- they did "Under Pressure"! When they started playing it I literally jumped up and down. And it was awesome.

I'm going to my friend Bonner's stand-up routine today (also in New York, yay!) so I'm staying at [livejournal.com profile] interchasing's house again tonight. I thought I was going to have issues since I'm allergic to cats, but I only got a little sniffly and I feel totally fine now. Maybe I'm getting over my cat allergies. That would be awesome.

Also, I've used the word "awesome" too many times in this post. Yay?

Anna has bought the tickets, so I am officially going to the Keane concert at Radio City in May! :DDD I AM EXCITED. It's Orchestra level seating too. I will obviously post any pictures that I take.

Also, Watchmen opens tomorrow! Alas, I won't get to see it until Sunday, but I'm pumped anyway.

Lots of exciting shit going on. Yes.

So, I just got back from the SubPop Records 20th Anniversary Concert Thing, and AAAAAAHHHHHH YOU GUYS FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS OH MY GOD. Iron and Wine was fucking awesome as well, but dudes. The crowd for FOTC was so huge, and I was very annoyed because I am ridiculously short and it was practically impossible trying to see past anyone with how close I was to the stage originally. I ended up having to go to the back. This is why the pictures are lousy.

Anyway, it was epicness. Jemaine was just on a roll with the jokes. At one point some guy threw his UNDERWEAR at them. It was hilarious.

JEMAINE: Well, this is a first for us, isn't it? Oh -- these are warm.

(CROWD LAUGHS)

JEMAINE: They're warm. How did some guy standing in the middle of the crowd manage to get these off?

(CROWD LAUGHS HARDER)

JEMAINE: And I'm touching them. Okay. (I think he set it down next to Bret but I'm not sure) People in the audience... you better watch out. There is a man going commando amongst you. A commando-man in our midst!

And a couple more memorable quotes: )

Also, Todd Barry came in for the last song ("Business Time") and played the bongos. WIN.

I got the tickets to the Flight of the Conchords concert! :DDDD Since it's a two day festival, though, I've gotten tickets for both days, and I'm not interested in going the second day because I don't know any of the bands. So I'm probably gonna wind up selling those... anyone here interested?

Concert Info

Sunday, July 13th at Marymoor Park, Redmond, WA

Les Thugs
Beachwood Sparks
Comets on Fire
Foals
Grand Archives
Green River
Kinski
No Age
Red Red Meat
The Ruby Suns
Wolf Parade

They're two tickets and they'd cost you $25 each. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

ETA: And I forgot to mention, since I ordered directly from SubPop, I got this promotional CD with the tickets, and "Bret, You've Got it Going On" is on there! :DD SubPop ships Bret/Jemaine; I knew it. And all of the songs on the track listing had "From the Album ____", and the FOTC song has "Not From the Album Flight of the Conchords", and I LOL'd.
