Well. Grandma's credit was not approved for my loan. I am probably not going to be able to go to school next year at all.

I feel like my entire future has disappeared in a puff of smoke.

(I'd write more about this but my keyboard is kinda fucked right now and it's too annoying to type)

I'm so so sorry. That happened to me during my second year, so I had to take it off to work instead and save the money myself. Which is why I haven't finished school yet, :| It sucks, but not all hope is lost?

Don't get that way just quite yet. When it comes to schools there are lots of different alternatives. How about your credit - if you got a cosigner could you take out the loan?

That's the problem -- I can't get a co-signer. All of my relatives are either too poor or have bad credit.

What about someone who's not a relative - family friend or neighbor or relative's spouse? Student loans are relatively low risk, so lots of people are willing to co-sign for them.

How did you pay for school last year, just curious?

I couldn't ask anyone to do that for me... I doubt any of the adults I know would be willing to since they are paying off their own debts and/or would not want to take the risk. I'd explain in more detail but typing is a huge pain.

It happens. But one thing I've learned is that once school's get you, they don't want to lose you. Even if they have to loan you the money temporarily, you're always worth more to them the longer you're there. So first thing on monday you need to call your financial aid office and tell them exactly what has happened, and have them help you find an alternative. NIU's financial aid office saved my ass cause they know all the tricks.

I can sympathize, sweetie. Its why I had to quit school. It's not the end, though. There are alot of options out there if you look. You can work for a few years and save up money and try going back part-time, you can look into training or technical schools. There are other options for school than just college. The adage that COLLEGE is what you're SUPPOSED to do after high school is old and trite. For people who don't have that money, alot of time it isn't worth going into decades worth of debt.

I was planning on leaving after this year because of the high tuition, but during this year I was going to try to get my foot in to the editing industry while I was in New York, with internships and the like, but now I can't really do that. I don't need a degree to work in the film industry, though, so hopefully it will all work out. <3

Although, I read somewhere in the comments that you were planning to take the year to look for internships and get your foot in the door and stuff...do NOT let this stop you from doing that!
