I'm so dumb, you guys. I wasted half of my computer's battery for no reason when I was trying to make a playlist for my acting class today, and I don't know what to do. The a/c adapter has not been working this whole week no matter what I do to it, and apparently it takes half of the battery just to START the computer, let alone use it to transfer files into a new one. I have no fucking idea what to do. Is there any way I can, like, buy a new battery or something? Get someone to install it in there? Because I'm kind of freaking out in a major way.

God, I'm so DUMB! *cries*

Oh, and I have a cold sore now. And I can't find that abreva stuff anywhere. Fan-freaking-tastic.

Damn, that sucks! If you have a Dell, then I unfortunately understand what you're going through.

I think you should try to find out if it's the AC adaptor that's fucking up, because those are cheaper than batteries. You can find cheap AC adapters for $20 or less on Amazon and elsewhere on the Internet - I got my last one here (http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com) for about $30, and it's been going strong for several months. Cheaper ones will, of course, crap out after a couple months, though.

If your laptop isn't charging unless if you have it plugged in, then it's most likely the adapter that's messed up. However, batteries - especially Dell ones - aren't made to last for long :P

Hope that helps!

ETA: By "charging", I meant working. *Facepalm*

I actually have a Toshiba, and it has about 85332058 other problems besides this, so I'm going to be getting a new one soon... and I suppose it could be the adapter itself, but I had a similar problem with the computer I had before this (which WAS a Dell) and changing the adapter didn't do crap. But I suppose trying it couldn't hurt... although I don't know how I'll be able to buy it on Amazon, since buying things on public computers doesn't seem like the best idea, lol. Thanks! ♥

I don't know what kind of laptop you have, but you should be able to replace the battery. Most of them it's even easy to do yourself. If there's a Best Buy or someplace like that near you, they could probably change it for you.

And you are not dumb *pets*

There is actually a Best Buy within walking distance, so I might wind up doing that.

I am sometimes, though. XD

Ooo good! The Best Buy people are (usually) very helpful. When my adapter died on me they let me take my laptop in and try it on a display model adapter to make sure that was the problem before I ended up paying lots of money for a new adapter. (If that made sense) They're used to getting lots of questions, so they won't look at you funny.

Yikes! I don't think I'm willing to pay that much to fix a computer I'm going to be replacing anyway.

Try getting a new adapter! Using my mom's a/c adapter worked for me.

Yeah, I think I'll do that if it turns out the port itself still works.

I think the computer questions have been well-answered, so re: abreva.

I find that Neosporin LT works really well on my super chapped lips, and it says it was developed for cold sore treatment, so maybe give that a try. I know pretty much every Duane Reade has it, usually over by the cough drops for some reason.
