Well, everyone is completely freaking out because some vigilante conservative group has decided to target LJ. Communities with things like incest and under-age sex are being suspended left and right, because this group is reporting them all over the place. They mostly seem to be targeting the HP fandom, which sucks, because they get enough crap and abuse over there already.

What does this mean for the Heroes fandom? Probably not much. Everyone is taking precautions---deleting unsavory interests, f-locking all of the entries, stuff like that. The only faction of the Heroes fandom I'm worried about is the Petrellicest---Peter/Claire, Nathan/Peter, etc. Especially Peter/Claire, actually, because that ship has actually had some coverage in the media. But [livejournal.com profile] paire_love got rid of "trigger" interests and is in the process of f-locking the entries, so they're probably not going to get flagged. I have no idea what's going on with the Nathan/Peter communities, but they're probably taking precautions as well.

Slash is safe. LJ cannot do anything about the slash, no matter how many people complain about it. They can't delete or suspend any slash communities legally.

This is all perfectly ridiculous. I do not, of course, condone incest or sexual abuse in real life, but this is fiction. The thing that's really getting me mad is that they're doing this indiscriminately. A freaking Lolita community got suspended. It's Vladimir Nabokov, for God's sake! It's a classic novel! And what about survivor communities? Are those going to get suspended too?

I don't blame LJ for this. They're just trying to protect themselves. But if this group hadn't started reporting these comms, none of this would have happened.
