TO ANYONE WHO KNOWS/PRACTICES LAW

tju_tju_tju_tjuMy boyfriend’s dad just got fired from his job. The house he lives in is owned by the company he used to work for, and they’ve given him a 7-day eviction notice. Is this legal? Isn’t it usually 30 days? 7 days is not nearly enough time to find a place to live and move there, especially when you’ve just been fired. Is there any sort of legal action he can take, or anything he can do at all? Would they have squatters’ rights after the seven days? Please let me know ASAP; this is incredibly urgent. My boyfriend being homeless in a week is not something that can happen.
eta: I was looking stuff up about the eviction notice, and I think it’s actually a notice to quit instead of the official eviction notice.
That means they would have seven days until the actual eviction notice, and after that they would have thirty days to move out.
So, that’s still not good, but it’s a lot better than only having a week to figure things out. I hope this is the case. I don’t know for sure, because I haven’t seen the paper.
eta: So, my boyfriend does have only a week to find somewhere else to live. His dad is unable to fight this eviction because his recent ex-wife has taken all $44,000 out of their bank account, because apparently she is a total cunt. He’ll get that money back eventually, yeah, but not in time. It was part of his contract that he would have seven days to leave if he was fired, and if he just stays in the house he will lose all of his compensation and he will have to pay the property taxes and utilities, which totals to almost $2000 a month.
At worst, Rob is going to have to move in with his mom in North Carolina. We’ll see what happens. I wish there was something I could do. But there isn’t.
He’s trying to find an apartment but he doesn’t make a lot of money, and he wants to be relatively close by for his job. He may have found a couple of things but it all depends on whether he can get a roommate.
