Brownie Sundae with Chocolate Chips

I finally used the Essential Chocolate Chip Cookbook my mom bought for me a month ago to make the Hot Chocolate Chip Brownie Sundae Cake, and let me tell you, it was extremely messy making this thing but it was worth it.

The chips didn't sink in entirely like they were supposed to, but that was okay. And the recipe called for bittersweet chocolate chips, but imho that makes it entirely too bitter (I mean, you're using unsweetened baker's chocolate already), so next time I make these I think I'll only use semi-sweet chips. It was a lot of fun chopping the chocolate, though! I felt like a Real Baker. (even though I used a microwave to melt the chocolate when I'm supposed to use a double boiler, but I'm not made of money, dammit)

Date: 2010-08-05 10:32 pm (UTC)If you want to do a double boiler without actually buying a double boiler, which I think is ridiculous considering how easy it is to DIY, all you need is a glass bowl over a pan with a couple inches of water. Bring it to a simmer and then turn off the heat, put the chocolate in the glass bowl, and put the bowl on top of the pan and stir until the chocolate melts. Be careful with it, 'cause if any water/steam gets into the chocolate, it's ruined forever and you will DIE. DIE, I TELL YOU. Also chocolate is uber-easy to burn, so watch out for that. :D But yeah, that's all you need for a fancy shmancy double boiler without actually having to buy a double boiler! ^_^ Real-Bakerdom, here you come.

Date: 2010-08-05 11:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, the book said that was an option too, but I figured it would be a bad idea since I'm the only person in the house today and there would be a 75% chance I would burn myself, lol. Microwave is easier, anyway.
